Proposal exhibited at the State Museum of Urban Sculpture, St Petersburg, as part of the exhibition New Works for the City.

Ascending celebrates the potential of new technologies and inventions, pointing towards a future of unimagined and unexplored potential. It takes the shape of life-sized parallel train tracks, referencing the global historical significance of inventions such as railways, which played a crucial role in the industrial revolution and globalization and had a profound social impact for the individual. Railway transport remains hugely important today, where it plays a significant part in reducing pollution and fuel consumption both within Russia and internationally.

From the side the tracks point upwards in an organic curve simulating growth and referencing the iconic drawbridges of St Petersburg. When seen from the front the sculpture makes use of perspective to create the illusion of never ending tracks, forming a ladder to the sky.
